State Fair Speedway Rainout: Rain has again forced State Fair Speedway officials to cancel tonight's races. Races continue Tuesday (July 3rd) at SFS.
Rainouts costing promoters: Between the State Fair Speedway, which Edwards leases, and his own Lawton Speedway and Devil's Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas, Edwards has suffered 21 rainouts. "It is absolutely mind boggling," Edwards said. "Somebody would have a better chance at hitting the lottery than I would of having 21 rainouts." Edwards estimates he has lost anywhere from $15,000 to $17,000 in money spent on staff and advertising for races that never happened. (NewsOK.com)

"Stars of Tomorrow" Kids on hand at the SFS: Tonight at 7:30, the speedway will try to get back underway to the delight of many youngsters. The speedway will have its regular divisions race, but a "Stars of Tomorrow" promotion is scheduled. Kid Sprints will be on display in front of the speedway. Most of the youngsters' cars on display will race on Saturday nights at I-44 Speedway in Oklahoma City. The track is located at 4100 SW 149. (NewsOK.com)
Nitro Cars return to Tulsa Raceway Tomorrow: Bruce Litton and Jon Capps will return to Tulsa Raceway Park June 23 as the No. 1 qualifiers for the two Nitro classes for the Skull Shine Sooner Nationals presented by Wolverine and Academy Sports + Outdoors. Both drivers will have to battle their way through a field of stout competition, all jockeying for the early season points lead in the Knoll-Gas Nitro Jam Drag Racing Series. Litton, a veteran drag racer, is anticipating different track and weather conditions that could lead to some quick speeds and elapsed times. "I'm looking forward to going back to Tulsa as the No. 1 qualified car, but I have no doubt that every dragster out there is a quality car and at any time you can get beat," Litton said. "It's a little closer to summer so we'll have warmer temperatures and it's going to be a night race, so it's really something you have to be prepared for. We could see some tremendous times going down the track." During the original event in May, Litton set the Tulsa Raceway Park record with a 4.626 second pass. (IHRA)

Ada's Oklahoma Sports Park to continue racing: Area race fans who had feared the only local track would close its doors can rest easier after track officials announced they signed on with a new ambulance provider that will allow them to keep racing. George Welch, Oklahoma Sports Park owner said earlier this week he may be forced to close the track northwest of Ada at the end of the month because he'd been told that Valley View Regional Hosital would no longer provide emergency medical service. But Welch signed an agreement with a Purcell company late Wednesday, meaning races at OSP will continue. Wadley Ambulance Service, an independent company, will take over for Valley View after June 23, Valley View's last anticipated stand-by date. Valley View officials said scheduling off-duty EMS personnell had been one of the problems with continuing their commitment to OSP. (AdaEveningNews.com)

Oklahoma Sports park may shut down without ambulance
service: Located 10 miles west of Ada on State Highway 3W,
the 4/10 mile oval race track may have to shut down if owner
George Welch can't find an ambulance service to be on stand-by
during the events. Welch said he recently received a certified
letter from Valley View Regional Hospital stating that, after
13 years, they would no longer be providing ambulance services
for the Saturday night events. Welch said that is a tremendous
problem for his facility. "My insurance requires that I have
an ambulance on stand-by at all races, and I won't operate
without insurance," said Welch. The letter stated that because
of increased call volumes and lack of equipment and manpower,
Valley View could no longer afford to provide an ambulance.
"They are going to be shutting the race track down if we
aren't real careful," Welch said. According to Welch, Valley
View has been trying to cut off the service for a couple of
years now. "They don't care about what it could do," he said.

ASCS Sooner Region Double OKC/Lawton: After a thrilling
feature event this past weekend, it's right back to business
for the American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner Region with a
pair of events in Oklahoma this weekend. On Friday night, the
Sooner Region stars take to Oklahoma City's State Fair
Speedway for the first time this season. Then on Saturday
night, the teams will beat a path down the H.E. Bailey
Turnpike to battle it out at Lawton Speedway. Over the past
weekend, two-time series champion Kevin Ramey of Fort Worth,
TX, and Tulsa's Brian McClelland both strengthened status as
2007 championship contenders with a hair-raising battle for
victory honors at Mid-America Speedway. Ramey ultimately came
away with the victory, denying the younger McClelland brother
his first series win. And with his second win of the season,
Ramey climbed into fourth in points while McClelland moved
into a tie for second with Texas racer Ray Allen Kulhanek. But
still out front is Cody Branchcomb of Sapulpa, OK, who
retained his series point lead by racing from deep in the
field on Saturday night to finish fourth. Branchcomb enters
this weekend's pivotal double with a 38-point cushion over
McClelland and Kulhanek, with Ramey 59 points out of the lead.
Friday's action at Oklahoma City's State Fair Speedway fires
off at 7:30 p.m., with Saturday's event at Lawton Speedway
going green at 8:30 p.m. (ASCS PR)

Sad News; Outlaw Motor Speedway Larry Hall passes away:
Outlaw Motor Speedway lost one of its family members this
morning. Track owner Gary Clay's brother Larry Hall passed
away Wednesday morning after a battle with cancer. No matter
your differences, a racing family is just that, a family and
it hurts everyone when a family member passes. So, please keep
his friends and family in your thoughts and prayers. Larry
Hall's service will be held 2:00 pm Friday June 8, 2007 at
First Assembly in Muskogee, OK. Larry could always be seen at
the races nearly every night the track was open, often
offering his opinion on how we operate. He often worked
anytime the track needed help and was the first person that we
called on when we needed any kind of assistance. Larry always
had a smile on his face and a joke ready to tell. He assisted
the installation of the Dr. Pepper scoreboard, the scoring
loop used for the World of Outlaws and the construction of
much of the complex itself. "When I first met Larry I thought
he was a terrible pain in the rear, but the more I got to know
him he was a very insightful person," said Track Manager Eric
Shannon. "I don't know anyone that won't miss him." "He was
truly a unique individual and I personally will miss seeing
him every weekend." Larry, you will be missed by everyone.

IHRA and Tulsa Raceway Park officials have rescheduled the
Skull Shine Sooner Nationals to be completed Saturday, June

rounds of professional qualifying were completed. However,
Sunday brought more rain which was expected to last all day.
"The first real glimpse of dry weather isn't until Tuesday or
Wednesday," said IHRA president Aaron Polburn. "So, it's
impossible to run this race as scheduled. It's a tough call to

Sooner Nationals will return to Tulsa and be run to completion
Saturday, June 23. Move-in day for race teams will be Friday,
June 22. All advance tickets that were purchased for Sunday
will be honored on the make-up date. Professional fields are

OU's Heupel 14 Foundation Charity Motorsports Event:
Local drag racers Brandon "The Kid" Lewis and Shane Lawson
team up with The #14 Foundation, Pitsco and several Tulsa-area
personalities to put on exhibition race to benefit
underprivileged youth. Former Heisman Trophy runner-up
Josh Heupel enjoyed great support and encouragement to succeed
as a youngster, and through his nonprofit The #14 Foundation
he aims to help disadvantaged Oklahoma youth realize their
dreams and potential. The "Speed for Need" Celebrity
Drag Racing event at Tulsa Raceway Park on Saturday, May 12,
is a major fundraiser for Heupel's foundation. Pitsco, an
education company in Pittsburg, Kan. is the primary sponsor of
the racing event. Pitsco President and CEO Harvey Dean,
an Oklahoma native, says Heupel's foundation is similar to his
company in that both organizations aim to educate youngsters
through positive experiences and proper training. "Josh
Heupel's the #14 Foundation partners with Oklahoma schools to
reach out and help students through educational development,
and that is something near and dear to my heart," Dean said.
"We need more people - celebrities and business people alike -
to step forward and reach out to the underprivileged youth in
communities all across the country." Heupel, who led the
Oklahoma Sooners to the national championship with a win over
Florida State in the 2000 Orange Bowl, spent two years as a
backup quarterback in the NFL. He is now quarterbacks coach at
Oklahoma, but he spends his spare time heading up the #14
Foundation. The foundation's mission is to empower youth
and adolescents through personal and educational development,
citizenship, moral leadership, social recreation and mentoring
programs. "The #14 Foundation is something that allows
me to help young people in a tangible way," Heupel says. "I
can have a positive impact on children and provide them with
opportunities for a more fulfilling life." The Speed for Need
event at Tulsa Raceway Park will feature funny cars, pro stock
cars, pro modified cars and even junior drag racing. Teacher
and author Sam Parton will showcase his Pitsco-sponsored Team
Thunder dragster and share education materials as part of the
activities. Gates open at 1:30 p.m. and racing starts at 3
p.m. Tickets are on sale for the event at Tulsa area Warehouse
Market and Burger King stores, as well has Route 66 Harley
Davidson in Tulsa and A-1 Auto Body in Broken Arrow. For more
