Outlaw Motor
Speedway Forth of July Special Friday Night: Sparks,
Fireworks and Excitement will all fill the air this Friday
(July 1st) and Saturday night (July 2nd) at Outlaw Motor
Speedway as it should be a weekend filled with fireworks on
the track as well as in the air. The 3rd annual race
features the MLRA (MidWest Late Model Racing Association), a
pair of Modified $1,000 to win and the Pure Stock 500 Friday
night. For the Late Models, a total purse of over $40,000 up
for grabs this weekend not to mention that the MLRA points
race is heating up with the rising temperatures. Outlaw
could be the place for another points leaders change as Al
Purkey #33P of Coffeyville, KS., holds a slim 787-717 points
lead over Belton, MO's #22V Alan Vaughn with Centerview,
MO's #2B Jason Bodenhamer and #15E Shane Essary of Aurora,
MO., in chase. Last time the MLRA Late Models visited,
Vaughn entered with a slim points lead but exited in second
behind Purkey.Vaughn and Purkey were kept out of victory
lane, but still put on a great program as Springfield, MO's
#75 Terry Phillips stole the show the first night of the
Showdown in the Heartland May 20th. The second night went to
#50 Denny Eckrich of Tiffen, Iowa. As for the
Modifieds, a tie atop the points standings with defending
points leader, Muskogee's #77 Gary Andrews and fellow
veteran #1 Mike "Fuzzy" Withrow locked in at 1295.
Third place sits Muskogee's #4R Jarred Russell, who is just
85 points back proving sparks will be flying for the two
night show to see who will be the new leader. Andrews has
taken home two Modified A-Feature wins this season, Russell
one as Withrow has been held winless. Many of the MARS
(Mid-America Racing Series), the NCRA (National Championship
Racing Association) and the WDRL (World Dirt Racing League)
are expected to show with the only Late Model Special in a
200 mile area here at the fast 3/8 mile oval. Some
other notables for this weekend's race is Adrian, MO's #15T
David Turner, Webb City, MO's #12D Scott Drake, Muskogee's
#9R Charlie Randolph, Batesville, AR's #5T Jeff Taylor,
Marshall MO's #1A Byron Allison, and #07 Kelly Boen of
Colorado. (OMS PR)

ASCS Invades
Lawton Speedway Saturday Night: In keeping with
tradition, the American Bank of Oklahoma American Sprint Car
Series Sooner Region will invade Lawton Speedway on Saturday
night of this Independence Day holiday weekend. The
series championship points race has developed into a
turnpike rivalry of sorts, with Tulsa's Sean McClelland
holding a slim 28 point lead over 2002 Sooner Region
champion Danny Jennings of Norman, OK. McClelland
returns to the site of his most recent ASCS Sooner Region
triumph, as he raced to Lawton Speedway's victory lane on
April 30. While the victory marked McClelland's third win of
the season in the opening five events, he has been shut out
of the winner's circle over the most recent five shows.
Jennings had been whittling away at McClelland's advantage,
shaving it to just eight markers prior to this past Saturday
night's Cowtown Speedway go in Kennedale, TX. However, a
tangle with two-time Sooner Region king Kevin Ramey resulted
in a rare DNF for Jennings and allowed McClelland to slip
back out to a 28-point lead. While McClelland and Jennings
are set to square off for the ASCS Sooner Region
championship over the remaining nine events of the 2005
season, Mustang, OK, shoe Kerry McAlister has climbed to
third in points, just ahead of Lubbock, TX, racer Preston
Peebles II and Sapulpa, OK, driver Cody Branchcomb.
The balance of the top ten in ASCS Sooner Region points
entering Saturday night's event at Lawton Speedway includes
Brian McClelland (Tulsa), Foster Landon (Collinsville), J.P.
Bailey (Fort Worth, TX), Jason Martin (Liberal, KS) and
Derek Cottrell (Fletcher). Past ASCS Sooner Region
feature winners of Lawton Speedway's Firecracker Nationals
include Danny Wood (2004), Nick Smith (2003), Foster Landon
(2002) and Robert Sellers (2001). Approximately 30
cars are expected for Saturday night's racing action at
Lawton Speedway, which is slated to get under way at 8:30
p.m. Lawton Speedway is located in Lawton, OK, off I-44 Exit
36, then 2.5 miles west on Lee Boulevard, then 1.4 miles
south on Sheridan Road. For more information, contact the
track at 580-355-6417. The 2005 American Bank of
Oklahoma ASCS Sooner Region slate consists of 19 events at
eight tracks throughout Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas and
Arkansas. In total, including the O'Reilly ASCS National
Tour, the Southern Tour and the Sooner, Gulf South, Rocky
Mountain and Midwest Regions, the American Sprint Car Series
will sanction more than 100 nights of racing in 2005 at
approximately 50 different racetracks throughout at least 16
different states. Additional information regarding the
American Sprint Car Series is available at

Outlaw Motor
Speedway Friday Night: Glenpool's Jake Kelley (Economy
Modified), Tahlequah's Jeff Hogan (Pure Stock) and Broken
Arrow's Brandon Morton (Modified) were start-to-finish winners
of their respective features. In the Factory feature,
Muskogee's Andy Morris took the lead on lap four and was never
headed. Morris had the largest advantage at the checkered
flag, almost a half-lap lead over the field. Kelley and Hogan
were run-away winners as well while Morton was in front by six
cars at the end. Two spectacular crashes punctuated the
season's halfway point. Muskogee's Kevin Terrill had a wild
ride when his car rolled four times down the front straight on
a lap seven restart after a spin-out by Oktaha's Gene Whittle
in turn four produced a caution flag in the Pure Stock
Feature. In the second Modified heat, Stilwell's Eddie
Martin flipped into the concrete wall between turns three and
four. Safety crews helped him from his car - it too was hauled
away on a flat-bed wrecker. He was examined by track medical
personal. In the Pure Stock B feature, Danny Russell, Stigler,
flipped his car onto the driver's side and slid into the wall
in turn three after being involved in a crash with Checotah's
Brandon Fields. He was not injured. Not even a restart with
four laps to go could slowdown Kelley as he set a blistering
pace to win the Economy feature. By the end he had powered his
car to a nearly a quarter of a lap lead over runner-up Kerney
Weaver. The Muskogee driver held off another local racer,
Heath Weston, at the finish for second. Hogan won the
abbreviated Pure Stock A that was cut from 15 to 13 laps. He
out-dueled Lynn Combs, Fort Gibson, to the checkered finish.
The two were one-two from the first lap. (More Notes and Full

Stewart wins ASCS
Friday Night at SFS: Darren Stewart (second in the ASCS
national points chase) and Danny Jennings (second in the ASCS
Sooner region points) both made up ground. Stewart won the
ASCS feature race Friday night, finishing one spot ahead of
points leader Gary Wright. Jennings placed third. Friday
night's feature combined both the National and Sooner region
tours. Sooner region points leader Sean McClelland finished
seventh. Wright entered the races with a 34-point lead, while
McClelland brought a slim 16-point lead over Jennings. USA
modified driver Stanley Reed Jr. increased his lead in the
point standings with his fourth feature win of the season.
Tony Anderson finished second. In the factory stocks, Shawn
Jorski notched his second feature race of the season and is 90
points behind points leader Dustin Buntin. (Results and more

Enid Notes: Troy Gemmill pulled out all the stops as
he put his Sign-It-Signs sponsored Kraft car in the winner's
circle for the third time this year in racing action at Enid
Motor Speedway Saturday. "The car ran good tonight,"
said Gemmill. "We practiced Tuesday night and it really helped
us put the first win on this new car." Kelly Wheeler inherited
the point and raced into a comfortable lead. But the men on
the move were the hard charging Mike Roach and Troy Gemmill.
The swift duo raced onto the bumper of Wheeler and started to
pass when another yellow flag came out. Wheeler's luck ran out
as they both charged past him on the restart. Roach took
command but a heated skirmish developed as Gemmill made
insistent challenges on the leader. Gemmill found the fast way
around the track in lap eleven and took the lead with a daring
high challenge in turn two. Gemmill kept up the frenzied pace
and in spite of a lap ten caution raced to the line
uncontested. Marty Lawson sped off the pole and led the early
laps of the fast paced "A" feature. His glory was short lived
as Darin Busch took the point with a daring challenge in lap
four. A yellow flag immediately waved as Busch fell off the
pace and stalled on the front straight. Morris accelerated
away on the restart with Lance Sessions on his bumper. It was
a drag race for several laps as they traded the lead back and
forth. Morris confidently held the lead to the line. Sessions
settled for second trailed A.J. Brochu, Kevin Dickson and
Travis King. Lance "The Wild Child" Sessions continued his
reign in factory stock, as he emerged victorious in the
Car-Mart sponsored main event posting his fourth feature win
of the season aboard his Janes Machine Shop/Sessions Welding
sponsored ride. Jason Gerhard displayed his winning ways as he
put his pure stock in the winner's circle for the second time
this season in the Car-Mart sponsored "A" feature. (In part

Morgan wins at Salina: The drivers of the Show-Me
Racin Series made the haul to Salina Oklahoma's Highbanks
Speedway for some super-fast racing action on Saturday night
June 18. The series had its third new winner of the year, with
Randy Morgan starting on the pole, and hanging on for the win.
Leslie Essary was in second, coming on strong and had an oil
line come off, causing the only caution of the race on lap 15.
Ironically, Aaron Botzow had engine trouble at the same time
as Essary, causing a few tense moments with two cars on the
track at the same time with fires under their hoods. Both
fires were put out quickly, with no major damage to either
car. (WhoWon)

Poff runs away with win: Warr Acres' Charles Poff
added some air to his tires after his run in Heat 2 at State
Fair Speedway. The result was a runaway victory in the
A-feature of the Pro Stock lineups late Friday night.
"We aired up the tires," Poff said. "The car was lugging down
too hard, so I freed it up by airing the tires more, which
took some of the traction away." Poff's No. 64 car
jumped out early in the feature race, taking a comfortable
lead. "I was trying to hit my marks every lap," Poff said of
his focus on maintaining such a comfortable lead. "I was
slowing down at the same place every time. I just kept
listening for someone, but they never came up and challenged
me." The only things keeping his competition close were
multiple caution flags in the 20-lap feature. (NewsOK)

Allen wins first Feature in 05, Kim Kidder first ever:
For championship sprint driver Robert Sellers, passing Dan
Schnackenburg on the 13th lap for the lead was the easy part.
Keeping his car on the track long enough to get the feature
win was the hard part. Kenneth Walker of Sapulpa won a
curfew-shortened super sprint feature and closed the gap on
points leader Gary Flatt. Only 100 points separate Walker and
Flatt. Super sprint driver Whit Gastineau added another crash
to his tough month. Gastineau's black No. 2 turned over in the
feature, the third time his tires have left the track in two
weeks. Larry Neighbors was going for a third consecutive
super sprint win Friday night, but he violently flipped end
over end several times in the feature. Neighbors was not hurt.

Walker wins two A-Featues, Neighbors, Buntin, and Timms
wins at SFS: State Fair Speedway track officials
successfully wished away the looming thunderstorms Friday, but
a little rain was exactly what the track needed. High winds
and no precipitation led to an extremely dry surface that made
navigating the 3/8-mile dirt oval as delicate as an icy
parking lot. The result was a bunch of crashes that made it a
hard -- and costly -- night for the drivers but produced
plenty of excitement for fans. One driver who managed to steer
clear of Friday night's trouble was super sprint pilot Larry
Neighbors. The defending points champion is trying to make up
for two missed weeks of racing. Friday, he won a second
consecutive A feature. In the other races, Walker added to his
championship sprints points lead with his second and third
feature wins of the year. Walker won the regularly scheduled
feature race as well as a rain make-up feature from the May
13. Randy Timms won the USA modified feature after
qualifying through the B. Joey Buntin won the factory stock
feature. (Results

Walker Wins Again: Kenneth Walker drove around David
Seabolt with four laps remaining to win a second straight OCRS
Sprint series main event Saturday at Tulsa Speedway. Walker
picked up his third win of the season but only gained one
point in the 2005 series point race as Mike Goodman nipped
Seabolt at the checkered for second. Terry Henry set the
pace when the race got underway with rookie teammate Ron
Paris, Jr. and Seabolt giving chase. The three pulled away
from the field until the yellow waved on lap seven for Earl
McDoulett, Jr. who backed his car off turn four. Henry exited
to the pits during the yellow. (Tulsa

ASCS Oklahoma Notes: Lanny Edwards has been packing
the stands at Oklahoma City's State Fair Speedway since
12-year-old Trey Robb began competing in the weekly Super
Sprint division this year. Friday night, the youngster (now to
the much advanced age of 13) made his ASCS debut. Robb
drew the pole position for the evening's fifth heat race and,
after outgunning 2001 Sooner Region champ J.P. Bailey for the
point, led the way until a late caution closed National Tour
title contender Darren Stewart to his rear bumper. Robb slid
just a bit high exiting turn four with the checkered flag in
sight however, allowing Stewart to slip underneath and deny
the young shoe his first ASCS win by just a foot or so.
Youth Nation: Fifteen-year-old Conner Pullen made
the tow over from Amarillo, TX, for his first taste of ASCS
competition. And as much as he'd like to forget most of what
happened, it's unlikely that he'll ever be able to
successfully erase the memories. Pullen's heat race went
smoothly enough for the first half a lap or so. Then turns
three and four came into play, where Pullen bicycled then went
end-for-end several times, wasting wing number one for the
night. (ASCS PR)

an American Sprint Car Series fourth straight feature win was
essentially over before a lap was even recorded Friday night

Instead, Kevin Ramey won the second ASCS event of the year at
the Speedway. After starting on the third row, Ramey passed
and then held off Bixby's Darren Stewart for the win. Stanley
Reed, Jr. won his second straight USA modified feature race.
Reed, Jr. held off second-place finisher Alan Olivia. (NewsOK)

3 Cars Flip at SFS Friday Night: It was a wild ride
for several sprint car drivers Friday night. Amarillo, Texas,
driver Conner Pullen was the first of three drivers to flip

sprint car go end over end in heat race four as did Jan
Howard's No. 51 car later in the heat. (NewsOK)

season. Along with some of the best sprint car drivers in the
nation, race fans will have a chance to watch Gary Wright try

Tora Rolls into OKC; Kosiski Wins at State Fair
Speedway: The end of 2004 marked a first for the
O'Reilly Auto Parts Topless Outlaw Racing Association. It was
the first time the series had seen a new champion other than
three time champion Larry McDaniels. Saturday night Steve
Kosiski began his quest to repeat as champion and grabbed a
solid early lead in the title hunt as he clean swept the
O'Reilly TORA Feature at their inaugural appearance to the 3/8
State Fair Speedway in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. A four
abreast lineup saluted the fans of State Fair Speedway just
prior to the A Feature event. At the drop of the green it was
Raymond Merrill shooting out on top but a pileup was triggered
in turn two when Al Purkey and Gary Gorby made contact,
collecting Bud Longpine, Randy Timms, Ryan McAninch, Steve
Foster, and Larry McDaniels. McDaniels headed to the pits for
repairs to the left front of his machine while Timms, who won
the topless modified portion of the show earlier in the
evening, was less fortunate, he was out for the rest of the
night. (TORARacing)

Rain Shortens Night at SFS: All but one feature race
at State Fair Speedway was halted by rain Friday night.
Drivers did complete the semi and heat races, as well as the
pro stock feature before rain moved in. James Beane led
the pro stock feature from start to finish on a muddy track.
It was Beane's first feature win of the season. The race
card was finally stopped as the super sprint class tried to
pack the track in preparation for the feature. But with
lightning and rain gaining momentum, officials ruled it was
too dangerous to continue. The postponed feature races will
be rescheduled throughout the season. A feature will be run at
the beginning of a regularly scheduled event. Factory stocks
will complete their A feature next Friday. Super sprints will
make up their race on May 27, and the championship sprints
will run their feature June 3. (NewsOK)

Drake Wins Again, Hughes Falls Short: On Sunday,
Jason Hughes' car was better. He dominated the feature race
through 18 laps with a solid lead over second-place Drake. But
on turn four of the 18th lap, Hughes pulled off the track with
engine trouble to give Drake the lead and a win before an
estimated 1,800 fans. "He (Hughes) had a better car than
we had," Drake said. "But it is getting tougher and tougher to
win races. We will take it any way we can get it."
Especially when $5,000 is on the line. The payout was Drake's
biggest of the season. For Hughes, one of the most-successful
modified drivers in the country, the loss was heart-breaking.

Drake Wins Day 1 of Xtreme Nationals at SFS: For USA
modified driver Jason Hughes, this weekend's Extreme Super
National races at State Fair Speedway is nothing more than a
business trip. The driver from Colcord said he made nearly
$100,000 in winnings last season with 29 feature race wins.
Hughes races in USA modified events all over the country. This
year his season started in February at a race in Florida and
will end in December with a race in Texas. Because of
the unified car specifications, the USA modifieds race all
over the country and are the largest dirt track car class in
the nation. Hughes said he has been on the road up to three
straight weeks and will travel all the way to Wisconsin and
Minnesota later in the year. "I'm starting to get used
to him being gone so much," Jason's wife, Alicia, said. "I try
to stay active to keep from missing him so much, but it was
really hard at first." (NewsOK)

Jennings Wins at Ada:
Danny Jennings repelled Sean McClelland's
bid for three wins in a row in American Bank of Oklahoma
American Sprint Car Series Sooner Region action by topping
Saturday night's 25-lap feature at Oklahoma Sports Park.
McClelland made a run for the point in the race's latter
stages, but Jennings was up to the task and took the checkered
flag with a two car-length advantage aboard the Folks-powered
Lucas Oil Products No. 61J Maxim. "I had a good rhythm
going until the yellow flag, which probably hurt me," Jennings
commented in victory lane after picking up his first Sooner
Region triumph of the season and third career win at Oklahoma
Sports Park. "The track was really racy and we do pretty well
here." (WhoWon)

Sellers, Burns, Reed, Clemmons Win at SFS: Robert
Sellers may have crossed the finished line second but he was
scored the victory in the super sprint division as weekly
racing action continued at State Fair Speedway in Oklahoma
City on Friday night. Chris Burns took the lead just past the
races midway point and held on to win the tracks championship
sprint division. Other winners included Stanley Reed Jr. and
Steve Clemmons. Cale Levescy and Whit Gastineau started
on the front row for the twenty lap super sprint feature with
Gastineau taking the lead as the green flag fell. Bruce
Jennings, Travis Scott, Sellers and sixteenth starting Larry
Neighbors gave chase to the leader the first couple of laps
before Neighbors moved passed Sellers and Scott for third down
the front stretch on lap three before taking over the top spot
from Gastineau down the backstretch. By lap eight
Neighbors, driving the F-5 chassis house car, had quickly
built a commanding full stretch advantage. Sellers moved
passed Gastineau for the runner up position on lap nine with
Jennings and David Lambert your top five at the races midway
point. At this point the leaders began entering heavy lapped
traffic with Neighbors once dominating full straightway lead
now slowly evaporating to eight car lengths by lap sixteen.
Sellers continued his chase the final four laps before finally
closing to three car lengths by lap nineteen. Neighbors would
keep his pace the final lap, however, and go on to take the
three car length victory over Sellers. (In part by David

Buntin Family Factory Stocks: If you're not a part
of the Buntin family, you may have a tough time winning the
factory stock points title at State Fair Speedway this season.
In fact, you may have a tough time winning a feature race.
The top five places in the factory point standings are
occupied either by a Buntin or a driver related by marriage.
"Yeah, I think one of us will win (the championship)," Jessie
Buntin said. Jessie is the newest in a long line of
Buntin racers. The 16-year-old won last week's feature race
and rounds out the top five in points. Jesse's cousin, Dustin,
leads, with cousins Shawn Jorski, Justin Allen and Joey Buntin
filling in the middle. Jessie's uncle, Jody, also drives a
factory stock. The Buntin family racing tree is tall and
somewhat complicated. Jessie's father, Mark, used to race, and
his brother, Lloyd, started the racing tradition in the 1969.
Lloyd's son, Lloyd II, drives a USA modified. Justin Allen's
father, Tim, married into the Buntin family and was a former
factory stock point champion. (NewsOK)
