"This is an exciting opportunity for the Muskogee area to make an impact and be televised all over the world," said track co-owner Lynn Skinner. "This is a race that literally anyone can enter and now they get to be on TV. "Just get a car, knock out the windows and basically race it," said Skinner. Phillips wins 3rd Annual Fall Brawl at OMS: Terry Phillips drove a “loose” race car to victory lane to capture the Modified championship in the Third Annual Fall Brawl at Outlaw Motor Speedway here Saturday night. Phillips, Springfield, MO, led from start-to-finish to capture the $5,000 first place prize money. Not even two caution flags and a red flag for debris on the track could stop him. He led Justin Hughes, Watts, over the finish line with Johnny Bone, Pea Ridge, AR., finishing third. “I misread the track and had the wrong setup tonight,” Phillips said. “My car was loose, but I was able to hold off some good drivers for the win. Justin kept the pressure on me, there was no breathing room. “This track, as good as it is, has had a lot of laps on it the last two nights, not to mention the wet weather we’ve had this week. I just didn’t read it right, and I don’t thing anyone else did either.” Phillips captured the pole by winning the qualifying feature Friday night by inches over Hughes. He made the pass for the win just before the flag stand. The highest finishing local driver was Bixby’s Greg Skaggs, sixth. This year’s point champion Joe Duvall, Chelsea, was last after dropping out of the race with car problems early.

Grand Nationals

Dale Richardson, moving to first when pole-setter Colton Dunlap pulled out of the race after just one lap, won the feature. Richardson starting along side of his Muskogee buddy on the front row, trailed the Muskogee teenager by a car when Dunlap pulled into the infield. A broken distributor put Dunlap, who won the qualifying event Friday, out of the race. After taking the lead, Richardson easily pulled away from the field. The race was for second place between Haskell’s Jay Arnold and Kansas’ Billy Kelley, with Arnold finishing second. The race was cut from 20 to 15 laps because only 11 cars made the feature lineup. There were five no-shows.

Pure Stock

Matt Burnett, denied re-entry to the track in Friday’s qualifying race, came back to win the feature tonight. Burnett went to the pits after a minor car problem instead of going to the hot-pit area. Track rules prohibit a car from rejoining a race if they go to the pits. Burnett, Muskogee, passed defending champion Russell McLain, Chouteau, and led the rest of the way. He had a nice, 11-car lead at finish, beating Tahlequah’s Jason Ward and Fort Gibson’s Dalton Ragsdale. McLain finished fourth. McLain and 2009 track champion Kyle Slader took turns leading the race before Burnett took over on lap seven, passing Slader on the low side out of turn four. A caution one-lap later hurt Slader, as McLain passed him on the backstretch on the restart to slip back into the challenging position. He maintained that until a restart for debris on the track with six laps to go let the field catchup with the two leaders. Ward and Fort Gibson’s Dalton Ragsdale got past McLain and held him off in the final two laps.

360 Modified

Attrition took its toll among the leaders, opening the door for Jeran Frailey to capture – the feature and $1,000 to win prize money. There were four different leaders of the 20-lap race and besides Frailey, only Porter’s Carl Conley finished – sixth. Early race leaders Shannon Reheard, Muskogee, and Braggs’ Patrick Goodnight, Braggs, left the race because of mechanical problems. Frailey, from Chouteau, jumped from third to first when Conley and Reheard made door-to-door contact in front of the grandstands. Both went to the hot pit area where Reheard discovered he had a broken rear-end. Conley had a flat right-rear tire, and after having it changed, he returned to the track at the tail-end of the remaining 14-car field. Goodnight went from first to sixth after an lap 11 restart with apparent car problems. He eventually dropped out of the race four laps later and finished 13th. In the meantime, Frailey won for the second week in a row, beating Porter’s Casey Lindell and Muskogee’s Mike Wroblewski. Starting in the third position, he dropped to fourth before climbing back in the hunt just before Reheard and Conley’s mishap brought out the caution. (PR)

Man attacked, another arrested after alleged assault: A Stilwell man was arrested late Saturday night after allegedly attacking a Missouri race car driver in the pit of Outlaw Motor Speedway. Charles Sims, 51, allegedly attacked Burl Woods, 32, of Republic, Mo., with a flashlight. Muskogee County Chief Deputy Terry Freeman said Woods was treated at Muskogee Regional Medical Center for a head injury and released. Before hitting Woods with the flashlight, Sims asked Woods why he ran his son off the track, according to the report. Sims was arrested on suspicion of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. He posted a $5,000 bond and was released at 12:45 a.m. Sunday, Freeman said. (Muskogee Phoenix)

Essary wins $3,000 race at Enid Speedway Park: Rafe Essary brought the OCRS season to a close with the biggest win of his career Sunday at Enid Speedway Park. Essary drove off the pole and led all 25 laps on a black dry slick race track to pick up a $3,000 first place check. "Jamie (Passmore) won last night and we won tonight," smiled a happy Rafe Essary after climbing out of his car. "It could not be a better weekend for us. November 15 is my 48th birthday so it was a good day." Essary was chased by outside front row starter Mike Goodman from the start. Taylor Milton, Sean McClelland and Jonathan Beason bell in behind Goodman and the race went 13 laps before a yellow flag. The five continued out front until lap 19 when Milton slowed to a stop in turn two bringing out the yellow. With Milton out Beason moved up to third with McClelland and Jamie Passmore fifth. The final six laps saw Essary continue for his first victory of the season. Goodman, who tried to challenge Essary briefly on lap 10, finished a close second. Beason, McClelland and 2009 champion Jamie Passmore rounded out the top five. Passmore successfully defended his 2008 championship with his win on Friday night. It is the second career OCRS crown for the Rose, Oklahoma resident. After going winless most of the season Passmore won three of the last five events to take command of the points lead. (PR)

Lewis and Foster crowned at Thunder Valley: Hundreds of racers in 11 categories commanded the strip this weekend at Thunder Valley Raceway, which completed the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series for the South Central division. In the end, Top Alcohol Dragster pilot Brandon Lewis of Broken Arrow, Okla., took home the final win light and locked down the division Championship. Top Alcohol Funny Car driver Chris Foster out of Davenport, Iowa, also picked up a victory and is making a last minute push for the West Central division title. Lewis kept the momentum going this weekend as he picked up his third Top Alcohol Dragster victory in a row. He laid down a healthy 5.319 second, 271.00 mph pass to drive around Richard Putz of Earlville, Iowa, and grab the NHRA Wally trophy. In the all Iowa final, Foster’s 5.735 second, 248.07 mph lap was more than enough to take out the struggling Lance Van Hauen of Reinbeck. This marks Foster’s third divisional win of the year and places him in strong contention with Andrew Bohl for NHRA’s division five title. Other top honors went to Scott Parks, Burlingame, Kan., in Comp Eliminator; Jason Tinberg, Shawnee, Kan., won in Super Stock; and Jerry Hefler of Kennedale, Texas, earned the title in Stock with every opponent faced in eliminations taking a red light on the tree. Hughes dominates OctoberFast at OMS: Dominating, there is no other way to describe Kip Hughes’ ride in the 50-lap Grand National feature in the completion of OctoberFast at Outlaw Motor Speedway late Saturday night. The Enid driver led the final 41 laps to claim the lion’s share of the purse, $5,000. Muskogee’s Colton Dunlap was second with Chad McNamara, Blackwell, third. Allen Screws, Winnsboro, Texas, one of the pre-race favorites, was fourth after experiencing mechanical problems most of the race weekend. It was Hughes’ second big payday of the month. He won $10,000 on his home track in Enid two weeks ago. “This is the best darn race car I have ever driven,” Hughes said as he watched his car go through technical inspections on the front straightaway. “This is a good, fast track. For the most part, my car handled well.” (OMS PR)

Passmore clinches Championship at Enid: Jamie Passmore won the sprint A feature at Enid Speedway Park on Saturday and that was good enough to lock up the 2009 OCRSchampionship. Passmore picked up his third victory of the season on the first night of the Enid Winter Nationals to wrap up the title with one race to spare. Passmore led Sean McClelland, Mike Goodman and Jonathan Beason to the finish. All four will transfer to Sunday's $3,000 Winter Nationals OCRS season finale which starts at 2 p.m. The remaining 36 cars in the 40 car field will return on Sunday to run another set of heats and B features to determine who will run for the Winter Nationals title. Pairings set at Thunder Valley: Day two of three is complete of NHRA’s Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event hosted at Thunder Valley Raceway. This race is the last of six in South Central division competition with current points leaders making moves to hold onto their rankings. Final qualifying is complete with Top Alcohol Dragster pilot James Thompson of Vernon, Texas, and Top Alcohol Funny Car driver Vern Moats, Des Moines, Iowa, taking the No.1 positions going into Sunday’s eliminations.  Thompson comes from the bottom of the pack and blasts a 5.308 second, 274.39 mph pass to grab the top spot. This puts him just ahead of Brandon Lewis from Broken Arrow, Okla., who posted a 5.322 second, 267.85 mph lap. Lewis, the current points leader, has won the last two races he’s attended, an out-of-division event in Topeka, Kan., and at No Problem Raceway Park in Belle Rose, La. He holds a slim 32-point lead over Claremore, Okla.’s Malcolm Wahle, who sits in the No.3 qualifying position. Steve Harker, Gainesville, Ga., is dropped down to the No.2 slot due to Moats 5.658 second, 256.48 mph run. Winners from Tri-State 30th Annual Spooker: Wow! That is the easiest and shortest way to describe the 30th Annual Spooker, presented by Choctaw Casino that was run on October 14th-17th, 2009. Although mother nature again showed everyone that she was the boss by dropping temperatures into the mid to low 40's each night, a great time was had by everyone from fans to drivers alike. An estimated fan count of over 2,000 for the four day event bundled themselves and braved the cold temperatures at night to watch over 300 cars battle it out on the legendary high banks for some of the best racing of the year. When it was all said and done, there were ten new Spooker champions that were crowned. Dalton McKenzie (Van Buren, AR) picked up the win in the Pure Stock class as Wesley Bourne (Cameron, OK) picked up the trophy for the Mini-Stocks. Five Champions crowned at Outlaw Motor Speedway: It was obvious that Kyle Slader was excited after winning the Outlaw Motor Speedway Pure Stock point championship here Saturday night – the 14-year-old rookie tried to do both a burn out and some donuts in the infield after his victory, but apparently, he didn’t know how. Slader made history by becoming the youngest driver in Muskogee racing history to win a championship. He went into the night tied with Chouteau’s Lee McLain for the lead. He didn’t win the feature, but his fourth place finish was good enough to break the tie to give him the title. McLain, driving a borrowed car, finished three spots behind Slader, in seventh. Slader joined Braggs’ Patrick Goodnight and Muskogee’s Kevin Flock in claiming championships on the final points race of the season. The three new champions joined Chelsea’s Joe Duvall who clinched the Outlaw Modified two week’s ago. Ronnie Palmer, Roland, won the Front Wheel drive division by default when both he and runner-up Brandon Morris, Booneville, Ark., failed to make the program. He finished 15 points ahead of Morris. Bates wins third non-wing sprint victory at Creek County Speedway: Brent Bates seems to be at his best when the wings come off the sprint cars. Saturday Bates won his fifth sprint feature of the season, but it was his third non-wing win of the season at Creek County Speedway. Bates had to chase down Jamie McDonald to get the victory. On lap 16 Bates pulled up behind McDonald in traffic and there was some contact. Bates managed to exit turn four with the lead and McDonald held on for a season best second place finish. Robert Claunch was the early leader followed by Len Larkin until lap eight. McDonald passed Larkin on lap seven then got by Claunch for the lead. Bates drove into second on lap 10 but did not close on McDonald until McDonald had a close call with Tommy Deckard who was trying to pull into the infield. Deckard came down on McDonald who was trying to pass. McDonald briefly got airborne but recovered with the lead. H owever that allowed Bates to challenge and eventually take the lead. Randy Bailey turned his first visit of the season to Creek County Speedway into a victory in the modified 20-lapper. But he had to survive a torrid battle with points leader Ho Dean to get the win. (PR)

Passmore wins at Mid-America Speedway: Defending Oil Capital Racing Series champion Jamie Passmore inherited the lead in Saturday nights A feature at Mid-AmericaSpeedway in South Coffeyville when race leader Earl McDoulett spun to a stop in turn four on lap 15 of the 25 lap affair. The Oklahoma City competitor chased down early leader Rafe Essary after a lap 13 restart and took away the lead on lap 15 to win again after only three starts on the season. The 25-lap feature got underway with Essary jumping off the pole with the lead followed by Danny Smith, Jonathan Beason and points leader Jamie Passmore. The four stayed that way until lapped traffic came into play after 10 laps. Dittman charged into fourth with Matt Sherrell getting by Passmore for fifth just before the yellow waved on lap 13 for Tim Kent who was slowing down. On the restart Essary continued to lead with Smith trying to mount a challenge. Meanwhile Dittman seemed to be getting faster and passed Beason for third on lap 14. Dittman quickly roared outside of Essary on the backstretch of lap 15 and drove into the lead in turn four. Dittman then raced unchallenged to the checkered. Essary held on to second while Sherrell passed Smith for third. Beason finilshed fifth behind Smith. Dittman became the seventh different winner in eleven weeks of racing. (PR)

ASCS Sooner Region at Creek County: The American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner Region returns to the place where it all begin with Saturday night's event at Creek County Speedway near Tulsa, OK. Saturday's card atop Sapulpa's tight, º-mile clay oval, where the American Sprint Car Series cut its teeth beginning in 1992, is the third and final Sooner Region stop in Creek County for the 2009 season. Closing in on his first series championship is fourth-generation Oklahoma City shoe Joe Wood, Jr., who has posted seven top-tens in nine Sooner features aboard the Wesmar-powered JW Field Equipment/Grand Machine No. 03 Maxim. Wood holds a 34-point advantage over Glenpool's Matt Covington, the 19-year-old with a pair of runner-up showings to his credit that is poised to take quick advantage of any Wood mistakes in the stretch run for the Sooner crown. Third-generation Tulsa-area driver Donnie Ray Crawford has worked his way up to third in points ahead of the Missouri duo of Kyle Bellm and Brad Graham. The balance of the current top ten includes Oklahoma City area contenders Chris Lloyd and Andy Shouse, Kansas competitor Forrest Sutherland, Mustang's Robert Sellers and Broken Arrow's Brady Bacon. Rain cancels MDLMS Event at Mid-America: With 20 Midwest Dirt Late Model Series cars sitting in the pits awaiting competition mother nature decided to steal the show and force a cancellation just prior to race time at the Mid-America Speedway. An odd westerly moving storm wiped out a big night of competition at the Speedway. It was to be the first sanctioned race of the season, and now gives the series its third rainout out of 8 scheduled events so far this season. The series heads to the Minneapolis Raceway next Saturday night September 19 for the first ever appearance by Late Models on the 3/8 mile fairly new facility. The track is located just 15 minutes north of Salina and will feature many festivities commemorating the first appearance by the wedge bodied gladiators. The event at the Mid-America Speedway will be rescheduled at a later date. Any cars who paid their entry fee but didn't collect their money prior to leaving will have a free entry fee at any upcoming race. (PR)

Drivers upset with new tire rule at SFS: Not every driver at State Fair Speedway was excited Wednesday night. A few were downright mad. Allen Chickering and Stanley Reed Jr. both showed concern that track promoter Lanny Edwards decided to change the USA Modified's tire rules for the rest of the season. "It's whoever has the biggest motor and the biggest pocketbook," Chickering said. "Now if you want to be competitive you've got to buy all new tires." This week Edwards began allowing a softer Hoosier compound that is much more competitive than the previous tire model. (The Oklahoman)

$10,000 Topless Late Models purse at Outlaw Motor Speedway: Late Models racing and a Front Wheel Drive Gambler will highlight tonight’s racing program at Outlaw Motor Speedway. The Late Models will be racing topless, meaning fans will get an unrestricted view of the drivers. They will be competing for $10,000 purse. “This is an historical event for our track in that it’s the first time the Late Models will run topless,” said co-track owner Lynn Skinner. “We’ve had a lot of calls from drivers all over this part of the country. “We’re expecting 30-plus cars. We had 20-25 when we had a Late Model Show in April.” Skinner also said advance ticket sales have been brisk. “The Late Models have always been a fan-favorite,” Skinner said. “One of our largest crowds of this season was when they raced last spring.” It’s a fan favorite and an event that attracts the not-so fan. Jesse Stidham from Wagoner said he makes about dozen races a year at OMS, and adds, “I’ve never missed a Late Model show. I was a regular when they ran at Muskogee Speedway. I hardly ever missed a race. I wish they were here more frequently.” (PR)

Timms wins at Outlaw Motor Speedway: For 10 laps Oklahoma City’s Randy Timms was the stalker and Fort Gibson’s Justin Fulton the target in Friday’s Outlaw Modified Sizzler at Outlaw Motor Speedway. Fulton had dominated the race from the first lap and was bidding for his first win of the year while Timms passed him at the flag stand to chalk up his second triumph in four weeks and the $1,000 first-place money. Fulton seemingly had the feature well in hand with two laps remaining, that was until a slower car played into the outcome, stalling Fulton’s momentum. Fulton caught last place James Drummond of Mountainburg, Ark., on the backstretch on lap 18, with Timms catching both of them moments later. The two leaders kept their running lanes on lap 19 – Timms high and Fulton low – with Drummond maintaining his middle-of-the-track line. He was given the “move over for faster cars” flag, but couldn’t alter his path because he was flanked by both Timms on the outside and Fulton on the inside. Completing their final turns in one and two, they were both on his Drummond’s bumper down the backstretch into turns three and four. The two roared passed Drummond, Timms still high and Fulton low, but it was Timms who had the better bite into the homestretch, beating him in the final 100 feet. “I was so slowly catching Justin, but I was about to run out of time and that slow car came into the picture,” Timms said. Sewell wins at Creek County Speedway:  Evan Sewell has only raced in seven of 13 sprint events this season at Creek County Speedway. But that has not stopped him from visiting the winners circle multiple times. Saturday Sewell drove into the lead after five laps and cruised to his third sprint victory of the season. Travis Ashwood led the first three laps before a red flag stopped the action after Brent Bates flipped in turn four. Ashwood continued to lead after the restart but a lap later Sewell charged past in turn four to take away the lead. Danny Smith moved into second on lap 11. Zach Beeler finished third after running second early in the race. Matt French took an early lead and raced to his third straight and seventh modified win of the season. French shot out front on lap two and Ho Dean moved into second on lap four. Dean could not close on French and settled for second. Chad Davis moved into third on lap 13 and chased Dean the final seven laps. Carl Lewis survived a crash marred super stock feature to win for the third time this season. Only 11 cars finished the race which was shortened to 9 laps after five yellow flags extended the race beyond its 20 minute time limit. After passing early leader Robert Watson on lap five Lewis set the pace until the final yellow for a five car pileup on lap eight. Following the final restart Lewis turned back a bid by Jerry Wagner on the final lap for the victory. Watson was third. Michael Stucks drove through a cloud of smoke to win his third mini stock feature of the season. (PR)

Decker’s car owner, Don Strawn, said the popular driver was suspended after an on-track incident, but he did not know the details. Decker said she did not wish to comment on the incident, except to say , "it was grossly blown out of proportion.” Decker, a Guthrie resident, won the Championship Sprints title last season. She was the first female to win a points championship at State Fair Speedway, which opened in 1954. (The Oklahoman)
