Hughes wins Enid's 1st annual 10k Modified Naitonals: Jason Hughes, of Watts, won the inaugural $10,000 to Win Summer Modified Nationals at Enid Speedway Park Sunday afternoon. The race drew drivers from six states, some as far away as California. Randy Timms, aboard his Western Flyer Express-sponsored car, exploded off the outside pole to maintain a commanding lead after 10 laps of the 50-lap race, despite two cautions. A lap 10 yellow flag flew for debris and tightened up the field. Jeff Taylor challenged Timms for the lead until Taylor faded to the pits in lap 18 with a flat tire. Timms, despite four more cautions, led the field until the 36th lap when he faded off the pace with flat right tire. Hughes took the lead on the restart. He wasn’t seriously challenged on his route to the checkered flag. Scott Drake was second, trailed by Morgan Bagley, Bud Longpine and Brian Franz. (The Enid News and Eagle)

Kevin Becker's sponsors upset with SFS officials after DQ: Becker was given a black flag that disqualified him from an A feature after he bumped Dustin Exline's car from behind — causing Exline to lose control and spin out. Becker insists the black flag, which was waved for rough driving, was undeserved. Becker said his sponsors, especially Cross Timber Koi, who provides his engine, were disgusted with the call by speedway officials. The sponsor told Becker he was finished racing this season at State Fair. "The bad call they made burned my sponsors,” said Becker, a Wellston resident. "I've still got them as long as I don't race in the city. It was about the 15th bad call, and I was tired of it. "It was just a racing thing. I got under him (Exline) and bumped him. I was furious with the call. I'm out here trying to win three championships in a row, and that night would have really helped me with the points. In six years, I had never even had a warning.” Tom Sanders, the State Fair Speedway manager who made the disqualification call, stands by his decision. Sanders said Becker isn't the only driver who has received a black flag this year and that it doesn't mean he can't return. (The Oklahoman)

He earned second place in the B feature Friday, but finished 11th in the A feature due to car trouble. "Feels good to be back out here with my friends, and to win again,” Charlie White said. (

Skaggs and Scroggins wins at Outlaw: It is beginning to look like no one can compete with Greg Skaggs at Outlaw Motor Speedway. The Bixby driver took the lead on lap six from Jeran Frailey and then set sail to his third straight Outlaw Modified feature win in racing here Friday night. It was his track-leading 10th victory of the year. Once Skaggs, who started on the sixth row outside, got around Frailey, he made a mockery of the race until a pair of caution flags with five laps remaining brought the field back to him. The final caution, for Joe Wright’s stalled car in turn two, came with two laps remaining. On the single-file restart, he thundered ahead of Muskogee’s Tate Cole to get an advantage going into turn one. From there, he pulled away from Cole and the field to win with ease. Cole held off Frailey for second and Chad Davis was fourth behind Frailey. In the hobby stock, Brian Scroggins held off a furious charge by Dale Richardson to win the feature that was stopped twice for accidents and cautioned five times for four others.(OMS PR)
Drivers uninjured in accidents: The race was halted on lap 11 when Brookin Stephens slammed hard into Jess Simms on the back stretch. An ambulance was summoned for Simms, but he did not require treatment. His car got sideways coming out of turn two in front of Stephens, who had no place to go. he other race stoppage came when four cars got together in turns three and four blocking the track. When everything was untangled, three of the cars remained in the race. No one was injured.

Tri-State Speedway rained out: The 37th Annual Firecracker Special, originally scheduled for June 28th, 2008 has been postponed until July 5th, 2008. Although the rain cleared out in time, it would have taken too much track work in such a short amount of time and we didn't feel it would be fair to the drivers and fans. Be sure to join us next Saturday, July 5th for the 37th Annual Firecracker Special, including our giant fireworks "Salute To America" and the Oil Capital Racing Series Sprint Cars.
