2000
Puffy's saga
continued when rapper Shyne (aka James Barrow), a
'protege' of Puffy was charged with attempted murder and assault for
the shooting in New York. in mid-January, Puff Daddy and his bodyguard
was indicted on weapons charges alleging that 2 guns were linked to
them. Puffy hired well-known lawyer, Johnnie Cochran to dispute the
charges. Puffy responded to reporters: "The decision to indict me is
wrong. I'm innocent and we will prove it."
Puffy hit the Top
40 again with the song "Satisfy You" featuring R.
Kelly.

Puff Daddy was
nominated for a Grammy Award for Best
Rap Performance by a Duo or Group ("Satisfy You"
with Puff Daddy). Puffy was arraigned in court in New York and
plead not guilty to criminal possession of a weapon charges. Later in
month more claims against Puffy surfaced stating that he attempted to
bribe his driver to lay claim to the gun that was found.

Puff Daddy
reached a financial settlement with a woman who was injured at the 1991
concert stampede in New York.

Puff Daddy was
sued along with Lil' Kim and Lil' Cease for $200
million for invasion of privacy related to a phone conversation used in
the track "Play Around" (on a LP by Lil' Cease produced by Puffy and Lil'
Kim).

No Way Out was certified 7x platinum.
2001
Puffy's trial for
illegal gun possession and bribery began with the prosecution stating
Puffy fired a gun at the ceiling at the nightclub and that a witness
would testify seeing a gun thrown from his vehicle after he fled the
scene with his driver and girlfriend, Jennifer Lopez. The bribery charge stems from accusations that Puffy
bribed his driver to state he owned the gun found in the vehicle.

Puff Daddy was
acquitted of the gun and bribery charges from an incident last December.
By the end of the
month, Puff Daddy was saying he wanted to be called "P. Diddy." He told
MTV: "No more Puff Daddy... the first week in June we're gonna have a
name change ceremony.... I'm rockin' with P. Diddy now... my man Biggie
gave me that name."

for 2 weeks.

Puffy teamed up
with David Bowie to rework Bowie's hit "This
Is Not America" into "American Dream" for the Training Day soundtrack.
Puff hit the Top
40 with "Bad Boy For Life" with the help of Black Rob and Marc Curry.
Puffy could be
heard on the All-Star Tribute benefit single "What's Going On"
(with proceeds going to AIDS and 9/11 charities).
Puffy took home a
VH1/Vogue Fashion Award for Sharp Dressed Man.
Puffy could be
heard on Janet Jackson's remix of "Son
Of A Gun."
Puffy was
nominated for a MTV Europe Music Award for Best Hip-Hop Act.
2002

Puffy
helped host the American
Music Awards.
Puff
Daddy could be seen in the critically acclaimed film Monster's Ball.

Puff
Daddy was nominated for a Grammy
Award for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group ("Bad Boy
For Life" with Black Rob & Mark Curry).

40 with help from Usher & Loon with "I Need A Girl (Part One)."

& Bad Boys: We Invented The Remix Vol. 1. The LP contains previously unavailable remixes
by
Puffy, The Notorious B.I.G., Faith Evans, Mary J. Blige, and Ashanti.
Puffy hit the Top 10 with "I Need A Girl (Part One)."

P.Diddy & Bad Boys: We Invented The
Remix Vol. 1 topped the
Billboard 200 LP chart for a week. The LP sold over 256,000 copies in
its first week of release in the US.
P. Diddy topped
the Billboard Top 40 Tracks chart for a week and the Hot Rap Tracks
chart for a week with "I Need A Girl
(Part One)."
P. Diddy amicably
ended the partnership between Bad Boy Entertainment and Arista Record.
P.Diddy & Bad Boys: We Invented The
Remix Vol. 1 was certified
platinum.

P. Diddy hit the
